Funny that all the anger has always been directed at IE. Fiveyears ago, the bad boy was Netscape. Every version and sub version would render web sites differently. It really was the hardest browser to target. But IE was always the one getting slagged off....
I think it's important to realise that the browser is effectively the platform now. Would you write a forms app for Windows and then sell it to Mac users without testing it? Of course not. You're always going to have to test for each environment, whether it's a web app or forms app. You always have to test the app, and make sure it works wherever it's going to be used.
I love this quaint notion that the internet is about standards. Since when? Going back to Netscape, they didn't help by introducing tags like
